The Cambodian-American community cannot remain silent in the face of Thailand’s continued violations of the ceasefire along the Cambodia–Thailand border. Families have been displaced, Cambodian soldiers remain hostages, and sacred territory such as the Preah Vihear Temple faces renewed threats of invasion.
This is not just a Cambodian issue — it is an American issue. The ceasefire was personally brokered by President Donald J. Trump, yet Thailand has disrespected that agreement, undermining U.S. authority and credibility. As Cambodian-Americans, we are both witnesses and constituents. It is our duty to raise our voices and demand that Congress act.
Why This Matters to Congress
Thai aggression undermines international law and American leadership.
The conflict threatens regional stability in Southeast Asia, critical to U.S. trade and security.
Cambodian-American families — U.S. citizens — have loved ones directly endangered.

Subject: Call for U.S. Action to Uphold Peace and Justice in the Cambodia–Thailand Border Crisis
Dear [Senator/Congressman],
We, the undersigned Cambodian-American citizens, urgently appeal for your leadership in addressing the ongoing violations of the ceasefire by Thailand along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
Since the ceasefire was announced, Thailand has acted in bad faith, continuing to intimidate, displace, and deny dignity to Cambodian civilians:
- Cambodian soldiers taken hostage after the ceasefire began remain unreleased.
- Families are denied the dignity of recovering the remains of fallen soldiers.
- Thai troops have occupied legally recognized Cambodian territory, paving roads and reinforcing positions in violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty and international treaties.
- In Choak Chey and Prey Chan villages, O Bei Chon commune, Banteay Meanchey province, Thailand has unilaterally acted since August 12, 2025, displacing Cambodian families and enclosing farmland with barbed wire.
- In late August, Thai social media influencer Gun Jom Palang threatened to unleash sewage trucks on Cambodian villagers defending their farms and homes.
- On September 3, 2025, Major General Boonsin Padklang, Commander of the 2nd Army Area, publicly stated that Thailand could reclaim the Preah Vihear Temple “through legal appeal or by force,” raising the specter of a new invasion of a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized as Cambodian by international law.
- Each day, new barbed wire is laid and Khmer villagers are forcibly displaced from their land.
The Royal Government of Cambodia has pursued every diplomatic channel—protesting through the United Nations, foreign embassies, and inspection visits with diplomats and NGOs—but Thailand persists in unilateral aggression.
These actions gravely undermine peace, human rights, and the international rule of law. They also threaten U.S. interests:
- Regional stability: Escalation risks destabilizing Southeast Asia, where U.S. trade and security commitments are critical.
- Credibility of U.S. leadership: Allowing treaty violations to go unchallenged undermines America’s role in defending the rules-based order globally.
- Constituent ties: As Cambodian-Americans, our families are directly endangered. We are your constituents, asking for help to protect our loved ones abroad and uphold the American values we share.
We respectfully urge you and the United States Congress to:
- Demand Thailand’s immediate release of all Cambodian soldiers taken hostage.
- Call for an end to ongoing territorial occupation and unilateral construction on Cambodian land.
- Press Thailand to allow the recovery of fallen soldiers’ remains with dignity.
- Launch fact-finding missions and support on-the-ground monitoring in Choak Chey, Prey Chan, and other affected villages.
- Halt U.S. and allied arms sales that embolden Thailand’s aggression.
- Consider targeted economic sanctions until Thailand fully withdraws and restores the situation prior to the conflict.
- Coordinate with the Administration to hold Thailand accountable for honoring the ceasefire that President Donald J. Trump personally brokered. By escalating the conflict, occupying Cambodian territory, and holding Cambodian soldiers hostage, Thailand not only violates international law but also disrespects the authority of the U.S. President and undermines America’s strength and credibility as a guarantor of peace
America must not allow this lawlessness to go unchecked. We call on Congress to demonstrate America’s commitment to peace, justice, and international law by holding Thailand accountable.
Your leadership is urgently needed to prevent further bloodshed, protect Cambodian sovereignty, and uphold the values of justice and peace.
Respectfully,
