About the Cambodian Association of North Carolina
The Cambodian Association of North Carolina (CANC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the Cambodian community within the state. Our mission is to improve the lives of Cambodian-Americans in North Carolina through educational, social, and cultural programs and services. We work to build economic opportunities and networks to improve social mobility and advocate for visibility, equitable social and economic inclusion of the Cambodian community in North Carolina. We re committed to working with other organizations with similar visions and purposes to be of service to all socially disadvantaged people.
Cambodian Association of North Carolina provides social services, and support the well-being and integration of Cambodian Americans into broader society. Key activities and initiatives typically undertaken by the CANC include:
Community Support Services: CANC provides a range of services to assist community members, including language translation, legal aid referrals, health clinics, Medicare/Medicaid enrollments, citizenship clinics, and food security projects. These services help our community navigate the complexities of integrating in the United States, such as finding housing, employment, and accessing healthcare.
Youth and Education Programs: Recognizing the importance of education for the younger generation, the association offers internships and work closely with CCC of NC to support Cambodian American youth in their pursuits and personal development.
Advocacy and Outreach: CANC engages in advocacy to address issues affecting the Cambodian community, working with local and state governments, as well as other organizations, to promote policies and initiatives that benefit our community. Outreach efforts also aim to build bridges with other communities and raise awareness about Cambodian culture and history.
Cultural Preservation and Promotion: The association co-host cultural events, festivals, and educational programs to celebrate and maintain Cambodian traditions, including the Khmer New Year and the Pchum Ben festival. These events often feature traditional music, dance, food, and religious ceremonies.
