Census Drive

The Cambodian Association of North Carolina (CANC) is dedicated to ensuring that every member of the Cambodian community is accurately counted in the U.S. Census. Accurate census data is crucial for fair political representation, allocation of public resources, and community planning. Our Census Drive aims to raise awareness, provide education, and assist with the census completion process.

Awareness and Education

Our first step is to inform the community about the importance of the census and how it affects their daily lives:

Informational Sessions: We host sessions that explain what the census is, why it is conducted, and how the data is used. These sessions highlight the impact of the census on local funding for schools, healthcare, public infrastructure, and representation in government.

Multilingual Materials: To ensure accessibility, we provide census information in multiple languages, including Khmer. This includes flyers, brochures, social media posts, and videos that explain the census process and its significance.

Assistance and Outreach

We make participation in the census as easy as possible for community members:

Census Assistance Centers: We set up assistance centers at community hubs such as temples, community centers, and local businesses where individuals can get help with completing their census forms. Our volunteers, who speak both English and Khmer, are trained to provide accurate and confidential assistance.

Mobile Assistance Teams: For those who cannot visit our centers, we deploy mobile teams to provide help at home or in other convenient locations. These teams ensure that even the most hard-to-reach individuals are counted.

Online and Phone Support: We offer support through phone hotlines and online platforms where community members can ask questions and get assistance in real-time.

Follow-Up and Support

Ensuring a complete count involves continuous support and follow-up:

Reminders and Follow-Ups: We send out reminders through phone calls, text messages, and mailings to encourage timely completion of the census forms. Our follow-up efforts are designed to address any questions or concerns that might arise after initial contact.

Addressing Barriers: We work to identify and address barriers to participation, such as lack of internet access, fear of data misuse, or language difficulties. By providing clear information and reassurances about data privacy and the benefits of census participation, we aim to alleviate these concerns.
