Dear President Trump,
On behalf of the Cambodian-American community in North Carolina, we extend our sincere gratitude and heartfelt appreciation for your critical leadership in helping restore peace during the recent Thai-Cambodian border conflict.
Your decisive and timely intervention, rooted in strength and moral clarity, reminded the world once again of America’s historic and necessary role as a global peacekeeper and defender of justice. As a small nation caught in a dangerous and unjust escalation, Cambodia found hope and relief in your voice and in America’s resolve.
We are thankful that your direct engagement and no-nonsense reminder to the leaders helped de-escalate a conflict that was inflicting great suffering and costing innocent lives, destroying homes, and displacing thousands of families. Your action sent a powerful message that no nation, however strong, has the right to inflict pain or take what is not rightfully theirs.
Under your leadership, the world is reminded that power must be used with integrity, and that America remains a partner to those who seek peace, not war; fairness, not dominance.
We respectfully ask that you and America continue:
- Hold Thailand accountable to international law, withdraw its troops from Cambodia and respect the ceasefire agreement,
- Help ensure the return of Cambodian soldiers who were captured under false pretense hours after the ceasefire had taken effect,
- Support peace talks with a neutral third-party observer, such as the United States, Malaysia, or Asean and UN bodies.
- Apply diplomatic and economic pressure when necessary to prevent future aggression.
Let the legacy of your intervention be not only a return to calm but a commitment to sustainable peace where truth is upheld, sovereignty is respected, and international obligations are enforced. Let America’s example shine bright so that no stronger nation can use its alliance with the United States as a shield or leverage to harm a smaller neighbor.
We thank you again, Mr. President, for standing on the side of peace, truth, and honor.
With deepest respect,
Seyha Thach, President Cambodian Association of North Carolina | Dara Yin, Chair Cambodian Association of North Carolina |
