Community Assistance & Service
The Cambodian Association of North Carolina (CANC) is committed to becoming a comprehensive support center for our community. Our Community Assistance & Service programs aim to address the diverse needs of our community members, ensuring they have access to essential resources and services that enhance their quality of life or aid in successful integration to North Carolina.
Immigration and Legal Assistance
Legal Clinics: In collaboration with legal professionals, we host legal clinics offering free consultations and assistance with immigration, housing, and employment issues.
Immigration Services: Our immigration support includes help with application translations, green card renewals, and naturalization processes. We help connect with resources and guidance to ensure a smooth and successful immigration journey.
Know Your Rights Workshops: We educate community members on their legal rights through workshops that cover topics such as tenant rights, workplace rights, and host forums to help connect and understand about different political offices and institutions that affect their lives and livelihood.
Health and Wellness Support
Health Fairs: Partnering with local healthcare providers, we organize health fairs offering free health screenings, vaccinations, and wellness information. These events provide crucial health services and education on managing chronic conditions.
Fitness and Nutrition Programs: We promote healthy lifestyles for youth through traditional Cambodian kickboxing (Kun Khmer) classes and support community gardening at Wat Greensboro, encouraging physical activity and organic, culturally-rooted produce
Economic Empowerment
Job Training and Employment Services: We offer connection to job training programs, resume writing workshops, and job placement assistance to help community members find and retain employment. Our partnerships with local businesses provide valuable networking opportunities.
Financial Literacy: Through financial literacy workshops, we educate community members on budgeting, saving, investing, and managing credit, equipping them with the knowledge to make informed financial decisions.
Social and Cultural Activities
Cultural Celebrations: We help organize events celebrating Cambodian cultural heritage, such as Cambodian New Year and Pchum Ben, bringing the community together to honor traditions and share cultural practices.
Community Gatherings: Our regular community gatherings, such as potlucks, picnics, and holiday celebrations, provide opportunities for socializing and building connections among community members.
Educational and Youth Programs
Youth Leadership Pipeline: We empower young people with leadership skills through mentorship programs, public speaking workshops, and community service projects, preparing them to become future leaders.
Youth Grant-Making Council: We empower our youth to explore important issues, develop creative solutions, and guide them in learning grant writing to seek funding for their ideas.
Civic Engagement Interns: We teach young people the importance of civic engagement and building power and representation for themselves and their community. Our youth take on leadership roles in activities like conducting community surveys, educating others about the census, and organizing voter registration events.
Emergency Assistance
Food Drives: We organize food drives to support community members facing financial hardships, ensuring they have access to basic necessities.
Emergency Relief Fund: As a passionate, community-driven organization, we go above and beyond to support members in need. Whether through donations from family and friends, fundraising cookouts, or other creative efforts, we find ways to help our community, even without formal grants or funding.
