About the Cambodian Association of North Carolina

The Cambodian Association of North Carolina (CANC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the Cambodian community within the state. Its mission is to preserve and promote Cambodian culture, provide social services, and support the well-being and integration of Cambodian Americans into broader society. Key activities and initiatives typically undertaken by the CANC include:

Cultural Preservation and Promotion: The association organizes cultural events, festivals, and educational programs to celebrate and maintain Cambodian traditions, including the Khmer New Year and the Pchum Ben festival. These events often feature traditional music, dance, food, and religious ceremonies.

Community Support Services: CANC provides a range of services to assist community members, including language translation, legal aid, health and wellness programs, and educational support. This can involve helping newcomers navigate the complexities of settling in the United States, such as finding housing, employment, and accessing healthcare.

Youth and Education Programs: Recognizing the importance of education for the younger generation, the association offers tutoring, mentorship, and scholarship programs to support Cambodian American youth in their academic pursuits and personal development.

Advocacy and Outreach: CANC engages in advocacy to address issues affecting the Cambodian community, working with local and state governments, as well as other organizations, to promote policies and initiatives that benefit their members. Outreach efforts also aim to build bridges with other communities and raise awareness about Cambodian culture and history.

Networking and Collaboration: The association fosters a sense of community among Cambodian Americans in North Carolina by creating opportunities for networking and collaboration. This can include community meetings, social gatherings, and partnerships with other cultural and social organizations.

Through these efforts, the Cambodian Association of North Carolina plays a crucial role in supporting the Cambodian community, preserving their rich cultural heritage, and ensuring their successful integration into American society.
